USA Holds Lead After Foursomes at Palmer Cup at The Stanwich ClubGREENWICH, Conn. – The United States held off a European rally to hold on to a 4.5-3.5 lead at the Palmer Cup at The Stanwich Club. Europe won two matchs and halved another. Round three singles matches are currently underway. Bank Vongvanij and Andrew Yun won the only match for the Americans in foursomes. The pair won four of the first five holes. The European duo of Nils Floren and Nick MacAndrew cut the lead to 3-up after a birdie on No. 6 but the Americans claimed the next hole to push the lead back to four. Another U.S. birdie on No. 14 produced a 5 and 4 victory. Europe would claim the next two matches. Sebastian Cappelen and Ignacio Elvira downed Blayne Barber and Alex Carpenter 5 and 3. Europe won holes two through four. The Americans would twice cut the lead to 2-up before the Europeans claimed Nos. 13-15 to close out the match. The Swedish pair of Henrik Norlander and Pontus Widegren gave Europe its second victory with a 5 and 4 triumph over Patrick Cantlay and Russell Henley. Europe built a three hole lead after No. 5 but Team USA won the next holes to whittle the lead to 1-up. The Swedes extended the led to 4-up after claiming Nos. 9-11. They won No. 13 with par to move to 5-up and closed out the match when both sides parred No. 14. U.S. teammates Daniel Miernicki and Chris Williams halved Jeff and Robert Karlsson from Europe in the final foursomes match. Neither side held more than a 1-up lead. The sides alternated winning holes 2 through 6 with Europe 1-up through No. 6. The Americans evened the match after No. 10 but Europe reclaimed the lead after No. 12.
