Welcome to the 13th annual Palmer Cup presented by Fisher Capital Partners.
We have had some wonderful sites for this exciting international collegiate championship over the years and I am particularly pleased that this year’s event is being held at Cherry Hills Country Club. One of America’s finest and most prestigious clubs, Cherry Hills is where I enjoyed one of the greatest weeks of my life when I won the U.S. Open Championship back in 1960.
I am grateful to Cherry Hills and the Fisher Capital Partners family for their generous and enthusiastic support of this wonderful event, which has become one of the premier amateur events in the world of golf in the years since its inception at my Bay Hill Club in Orlando in 1997. It is fitting that the Palmer Cup will be the first important event staged at Cherry Hills since its Championship course reopened after a major restoration earlier this year.
When approached by representatives of the Golf Coaches Association of America back in the 1990s, I was honored to lend my name and support to this fine endeavor that fosters international good will and fascinating competition on the collegiate level. It surely enriches the lives of these young men through the universal bond of the great game of golf. Many past participants have gone on to successful careers as professional players and this pattern will surely continue in the years to come.
I extend my best wishes to the members and coaches of both teams as they enter into another memorable competition.
